Last Minute Evening Openings (14th October 2025)

It has been a busy time in the Larder. We have had our regular busy openings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are trialling last minute openings from food collections, this week this was gratefully received from the Duns Coop. These trial openings have been on two nights this week at 9:30pm with food that had mostly the same day used by dates.

From these two trials alone we have managed to divert so much food from going to landfill.

Out of 13 large bags from the coop only 4 ended up in the bin. 9 bags went to someone’s home to eat. We were able to save a lot of the good food and it went to supplement the larder including many rolls, pineapples, aubergines, garlic, apples and more.

Along with some yummy fruit including strawberries, blackberries and vegetables some chilled products such as ready meals, chicken wings were taken home by our customers which they planned to cook that night or freeze for use later.

We will be continuing the trials and we plan to start weighing so we are more accurate with the food we are saving from landfill.

Thankyou to all our volunteers for you continued help and support. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please message on fb or drop us an email at dunsfairshare@gmail.com
