    In the Larder this week July 22nd 2024

    What’s in the Larder this week? We like surprises and this week as an extra from FareShare we have 24 packs of spreadable butter! These need to go tomorrow and won’t count as one of your fridge items. It does freeze. We also have a crate of very ripe bananas ideal for baking or smoothies. I didn’t know until recently that you can also freeze bananas for another day. As you will see from the pictures we have lots of ripe tomatoes and some cauliflowers. The fridge is also full with a mixture of items. All this is before we collect the always generous donation from Duns Coop. Our freezer…

    In the Larder this week July 15th 2024

    Summer has arrived at the larder. This week we have a really good mix of items. Some nice children’s yoghurts, lots of cold meat, quiches and some ready meals. Put together with the generous donations from Farne Salmon, Duns Co-op and Greenvale we have lots of choice. We have also had a few donations from visitors to the cafe/larder in the form of fresh produce from their gardens. This has been very popular. As has the fresh soft fruit from Abundant Borders. We are open from 10 till 12 noon Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    It’s Duns Summer Festival and the town is buzzing. Everyone at Duns Fair Share would like to wish the Reiver’s Party and Wynsome Mayde’s Party a wonderful week. Fingers crossed for lots of sunshine. ❤️🖤❤️Safe oot! Safe in!❤️🖤❤️ The What Matters Hub will be at Murray Street this Tuesday. The freezer has some new macaroni cheese ready meals.  The fridge has a good range of items including 20 cottage pies which need to go on Tuesday. They do freeze and make a handy quick meal.     In the Larder this week July 1st 2024

    Our fresh salad leaves from Abundant Borders have proved very popular. Last Thursday we had the first of their other crops. We also were given some fresh lettuce and parsley from a garden in Paxton. Lovely to see people sharing, just taking what they need and enjoying this really fresh local produce. Our delivery from FareShare in Edinburgh included 24 Cornish Pasties which need to go today (Tuesday). They can be frozen for future use.     In the Larder this week June 24th 2024

    The What Matters Hub will be at Murray Street this Tuesday. Last week we had a generous donation of some frozen Wiltshire Farm Foods meals. The freezer will also have salmon from Farne,  smokey bean and veg chilli and Little Moons chocolate ganache ice-creams. The fridge will have a variety of items. It is a real mixture this week. Today we received a large delivery of leeks. I know it’s not soup weather so let’s get inventive and save them from landfill.     Abundant Borders Cook Fresh Initiative with Duns Fair Share

    We are really enjoying collaborating with Abundant Borders. Sabina, from Abundant Borders Cook Fresh, recently organised a slow cooker course at the Duns Fair Share cafe. She is planning an air fryer course in the near future. Claire and the community food growers at the Duns Abundant Borders garden are supplying the community larder with super fresh salad leaves and herbs. We are looking forward to lots more delicious produce.

    In the Larder this week June 17th 2024

    Last week we had our first weekly delivery of fresh produce from the Abundant Borders Community Garden at Station Road in Duns. The super fresh salad leaves were very popular. We will have produce on Thursdays when available. Thank you Claire. We have 20 punnets of strawberries, which need to go tomorrow and some lovely blueberries. The freezer will have salmon from Farne,  smokey bean and veg chilli and Little Moons chocolate ganache ice-creams. The fridge will have loads of Cornish Pasties and sausage rolls.     Last week was very busy at Duns Fair Share. Thank you for all your continued support. The What Matters Hub will be at Murray Street this Tuesday. We never know from week to week what will be available. This week we have 20 Marks and Spencer cottage pies which need to go tomorrow (Tuesday). They can be frozen. The freezer will have salmon from Farne,  smokey bean and veg chilli and crispy pancakes available. The fridge will have cottage pies, cheese, yoghurts, sausages, chicken slices and some jellies.     This week is National Volunteer Week. Duns Fair Share is run purely by volunteers. We would not exist without their amazing dedication and hard work. We would like to thank them for everything they do, every week of the year, In the Larder, the freezer will have salmon from Farne and we still have some of the smokey bean and veg chilli available. The fridge will have cheese & bacon chicken Kievs, chicken and vegetable soup, carrot & coriander soup, Heck sausage bombs, Cornish pasties, cheddar & onion quiche and some jellies.
