Cafe, Larder and Food Bank Logos
Duns Fair Share (DFS) is a community based registered Scottish charity run by volunteers. DFS runs a community Cafe and Larder along with the Food Bank. In an effort to give each their own identity we have created a separate logo for each while still maintaining the link under the management of Duns Fair Share. Cafe and Larder The Cafe and Larder are currently open for two hours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10am and 12pm. Cafe The Cafe provides a warm environment for the community to get together over a cuppa and a biscuit while providing a place for community services to attend and provide outreach services. It…

Instead of a packed fridge we have a packed freezer. We have quite a few packets of coated boneless chicken fillets. How about making some delicious wraps paired with one of the sauces from the shelf and some of the veg from the table. Also in the freezer are some lovely salmon fillets donated by Farne of Scotland, lovely paired with some potatoes from the table, with some carrots, cabbage or little tomatoes. Finally in the freezer this week we have some lovely looking margarita pizzas, a meal in itself of great paired with some chips made from the potatoes from the table and maybe some mayonnaise from the shelf.…
Last Minute Evening Openings (14th October 2025)
It has been a busy time in the Larder. We have had our regular busy openings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are trialling last minute openings from food collections, this week this was gratefully received from the Duns Coop. These trial openings have been on two nights this week at 9:30pm with food that had mostly the same day used by dates. From these two trials alone we have managed to divert so much food from going to landfill. Out of 13 large bags from the coop only 4 ended up in the bin. 9 bags went to someone’s home to eat. We were able to save a lot of…

Once again we have the most amazing selection of fruit and vegetables from Abundant Borders and the Hugo Burge Foundation - including Brussels sprouts! - too early? The fridge and freezer are both full to the brim. The cheese and onion bakes are an extra item in the fridge so please help yourselves. The What Matters Hub will be available in the cafe tomorrow (Tuesday). Duns Fair Share is run entirely by volunteers - we thank them very much for all they do.

The Hugo Burge Foundation and Abundant Borders have once again given us a rainbow of beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables including some passion fruit grown here in the Scottish Borders. Amazing! The fridge is bursting. We have large packs of chicken breasts, family pizzas, yoghurts, burgers, steaks and orange juice. The blueberries are an extra item so please help yourself. New in the freezer are some frozen half chickens and some tandoori flavour salmon from Farne. We have also had a delivery from Eildon Housing so lots of choice. Let’s save all this fantastic food from landfill and help the planet.

We have some lovely local tomatoes from Abundant Borders which smell amazing. The Hugo Burge Foundation has given us a great range of produce again this week including some long chilli peppers. I’m not sure how hot they will be. The fridge and freezer both have a variety of things. The grapes in the fridge are an extra item so please help yourself. The What Matters Hub will be at the cafe on Tuesday.

Well we are definitely getting closer to autumn. We have some lovely little squash pumpkins from the Hugo Burge Foundation as well as plums, blueberries, runner beans, green beans, courgettes, carrots, parsnips and potatoes. All grown locally and super fresh. The extended range of frozen food from FareShare is proving very popular, as is the salmon from Farne. This week we will also have a delivery from Eildon Housing. Lots of choice and a warm glow because you are helping to save the planet. What’s not to like?

Salmon from Farne and a selection of things from FareShare. The fridge has some extra items that don’t count as your 2. They are mushrooms and the family pizzas. The pakora and dip count as one item. The table is full of fruit and vegetables all waiting to be picked up. Let’s save all this amazing food from landfill. The What Matters Hub will be at the cafe tomorrow (Tuesday). See you at Murray Street.

Once again we have some excellent, super fresh produce from the Abundant Borders garden in Duns. Why not pop in. It is a lovely spot. This week the freezer has pizzas, chicken tenders, salmon from Farne and carrots. We have opted to pay extra so that we can order frozen items from FareShare. Our fresh fruit was boosted by a wonderful donation of some local eating and cooking apples. We have also had our regular delivery from Eildon Housing. As you will see from the photos we have a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. The What Matters Hub is at the cafe tomorrow (Tuesday). Help the planet by…

Please remember, this week the minimum donation in the larder goes up to £2. Once again we have a fantastic range of fruit and vegetables thanks to The Hugo Burge Foundation, Abundant Borders, FareShare and Duns Co-op. It is also lovely at this time of the year when people drop off extra produce from their own gardens. We were given some super fresh cucumbers the other week by a generous supporter. The What Matters Hub will be in the cafe on Tuesday this week. Let’s all do our bit – Love Food Hate Waste 💚🌍💚.
