In the Larder this week February 17th 2025
It’s half term and we have oodles of bananas and carrots. Perfect for baking banana bread or carrot cake. The tiny single butter portions were a surprise. Please help yourself to a handful, they won’t count as a fridge item. Eildon Housing have delivered this week so the shelf is full. We also have our regular donations from Farne Salmon, Greenvale and Duns Co-op. Pop into Murray Street for a cosy cuppa and stop all this food going to landfill. We are open Tuesday and Thursday 10 till 12 noon.

This week we have a whole shelf of pies that need to go tomorrow. They are chicken or ham hock. They do freeze. It is definitely the weather for a tasty pie. A cuppa and a warm welcome awaits. We are open from 10.00 to 12.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Let’s feed tums not bins

In the Larder this week February 3rd 2025
The shelf is absolutely full this week I’ve said it before but we never know what will arrive on Monday and we love surprises. This week it’s some musical biscuit tins in the shape of houses and tons of instant mashed potato. The instant mash could be a quick easy way to thicken soup. The fridge has a good range of produce and the freezer has salmon from Farne. We have a whole crate of apples and bananas. We also have potatoes from Greenvale and bakery goods from Duns Coop. Come along for a cuppa and help save the planet. We are open 10am till 12 noon Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In the Larder this week January 27th 2025
Well, we have another challenge this week. We have 28 packs of macaroni cheese which need to go tomorrow. It does freeze so would make a quick meal at a later date. The extras table has a mountain of crisps and venison bolognese which also have a short date. Thinking about best before dates, lots of the produce we receive from FareShare has an extended date which has been decided between FareShare in Edinburgh and the manufacturer. I usually write these on the white board on the side of the fridge. The What Matters Hub will be at the cafe this week. Come along for a cuppa, a chat and…

In the Larder this week January 20th 2025
I’ve been informed that today is known as “blue Monday”, to brighten things up we have a rainbow of fruit and vegetables this week. Lots of choice including mushrooms that would be good for soup. The freezer has a range of salmon produce from Farne. The cream cheese and smoked salmon canapés make a meal when defrosted and mixed with cooked pasta. An instant creamy salmon sauce. This week we have a delivery from Eildon Housing as well as our usual FareShare, Greenvale and Duns Co-op produce. Pop in for a cuppa, pick up some tasty ingredients and help stop all this food from going to landfill. We are open…

The fridge is well stocked. We have some bottles of squeezy butter, which I have never seen before, apparently it can be used straight from the fridge when baking. What next? We also have lots of lovely clementines, vine tomatoes, savoy cabbages, onions and the first of the year’s rhubarb. The shelf has a wide variety of random items and we have some mince pies- if you can face them after Christmas. Greener Duns are going to be holding a repair workshop at Murray Street on the first Saturday of each month starting on February 1st. Look out for the posters. The What Matters Hub will be at the cafe…
